Silvanberries are an early fruiting berry, from early December through to mid January. They produce a large, glossy red/black fruit that has been compare to a blackberry's sweetness in flavour.
Use: Pick them fresh for eating, or great in the recipes below. Fruit can be frozen for use when not in season.
Care: Thriving in a full sun position, in a moist, well drained soil. Apply rich organic matter to retain moisture and curb weed growth. Canes should be pruned to ground level during the winter period. Silvanberries have brittle canes and need to be tied to a support regularly when fruit is formed, during summer. |
